WHO warns general public of alarming Hepatitis B death rate

The World Health Organization warned the general public about the alarming death rates caused by hepatitis B.

On Sunday, 14th May 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) communicated to the general public about the dangers of hepatitis B and its alarming death rates through their social media platforms.

According to the World Health Organization, someone dies every 30 seconds from a hepatitis-related illness including liver failure, cirrhosis and cancer. It advised the public to get tested and not to wait. “Don’t wait! Get tested at a health facility near you”, it stated.

Hepatitis B is a viral infection that attacks the liver and can cause acute and chronic diseases. The virus is most commonly transmitted through contact with blood or other body fluids during sex with an infected partner, unsafe injections or exposures to sharp instruments and from a mother to a child during birth and delivery.
