Group identified as Alliance For FootSoldiers Advocacy ( AFFA) of the ruling New Patriotic Party ( NPP) Government has called on the Board of Trustees of Ghana’s National Covid- 19 Trust Fund to withdraw the ambassadorial appointment of radio personality, Abeiku Santana.
A letter dated 23rd March 2021 had earlier circulated on social media announcing the appointment of the broadcaster and failed Parliamentary Aspirant of the NDC as Ambassador of Ghana’s COVID- 19 National Trust Fund.
The group reacting to the appointment in a press statement signed by it’s Executive Secretary, Sir Obama Pokuase described Abeiku Santana as a dubious and selfish character galavanting the corridors of power.
They say while they acknowledge the urgent need for government to tap into the competence and experience of knowledgeable people in the creative arts sector to complement it’s efforts to in combating the COVID 19 pandemic, it is equally important for the appointing authority to be wary of characters such as the broadcaster.
” The COVID 19 National Trust Fund established by an Act of Parliament ( Act 1013) is to among other things ” complement the efforts of government to combat COVID- 19 pandemic, by providing an avenue for all well meaning individuals, groups, and corporate to contribute or donate money, and or resources that may be required to combat COVID 19″ Part of the release read.
According to AFFA, Abeiku Santana’s ideologies and public pronouncements in recent times are in sharp contrast with the Akufo-Addo led Government.
They say they need a person who believe and share in the vision of President Akufo-Addo’s government as the Ambassador of the Trust Fund will play a role of soliciting for funds.
” Abeiku Santana’s ideologies and public pronouncements in recent times are in sharp contrast with the vision and policies of this government” The statement further read.
