Jay Bahd will not be competing in the “best new artist of the year” category at this Vodafone Ghana Music Awards presentation ceremony.
The announcement, contained in a Tuesday press statement shared by the organizers, CharterHouse Ghana, follows a one-week provisional errors and omissions window that was instituted by the board to help correct any oversights that may have occured during the nomination process.
According to the board, the rapper and hip-hop artist is not eligible as a nominee for the Best New Artiste category because “he is not new to the scheme due to his shared nomination with Yaw Tog’s “Sore” for Collaboration of the Year in 2021.”
The nominees for the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) were unveiled at a ceremony in Accra, Ghana last month. Sensational rapper and singer, Black Sherif; highlife singer, King Promise; and rap phenom, Sarkodie, are among the most nominated acts this year with 15, 14, and 10 nominations, respectively. Last year, KiDi walked away with the Artist of the Year Award, which he will be hoping to retain this year.
The scheme, now in its 24th edition, is recognized as the nation’s preeminent multicultural and music awards show from a Ghanaian perspective.
This year’s edition, officially known as the 24th VGMA, will celebrate and honor outstanding musical achievements in the country and across the continent in various genres, including highlife, Afropop, hiplife, and traditional music. Some of the more coveted award categories include New Artist, Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Most Popular Song of the Year, and Artist of the Year.
The 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is now slated for the 6th of May, 2023. The event will come off at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, and will show live on TV3, and worldwide via the Ghana Music Awards socials.
